Is Ilfracombe set to be the new Padstow?
It’s no secret that Ilfracombe is a fantastic foodie destination with an abundance of great restaurants who have access to the amazing local produce on offer here in north Devon, but now it seems that Ilfracombe is finally getting recognition from the food industry on a national scale.
You can only imagine our joy to see the following tweet recently from The Michelin Guide:
So is Ilfracombe about to overtake Padstein?!
As you may already be aware, Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room is already the proud owner of a Michelin Star (one of only five restaurants in Devon) and Thomas and the team have worked incredibly hard to create the Seafood & Grill to offer another quality dining venue within Ilfracombe, so it was fantastic that Michelin shared a photo not only of the Olive Room but also of the Seafood & Grill last month; it’s especially humbling as we had only been open for a few weeks at the time of tweeting!
It may be surprising to some that Michelin chose Ilfracombe specifically as Barnstaple has always been considered the focal town for North Devon, but the 2017 and 2018 Michelin Guide not only had Michelin-starred Thomas Carr @ The Olive Room but also featured Ilfracombe restaurants in 11, The Quay and The Gendarmerie. A short drive in either direction along the North Devon coast would also take you to The Coach House @ Kentisbury Grange or Noel Corston in Woolacombe, both of which are also featured in 2018’s Michelin Guide.
All this talk of fantastic restaurants is making us hungry!
So have you been to the Seafood & Grill yet? We’d love for you to come and see what all of the fuss is about!
Situated in the old Lamb Hotel, the Seafood & Grill has been given a fresh makeover whilst still retaining a lot of original features. The wooden industrial-style furniture, log burner and friendly staff all helps in giving our customers a warm welcome as soon as they step through the front door.
The menu shows off the fantastic local produce, especially the quality seafood available in this beautiful part of the country. Our specials menu changes regularly reflecting the availability of seasonal ingredients so there is always something new to try!
We have a mixologist with us who shakes and stirs to create a wide variety of classic and modern cocktails and with 2-4-1 cocktails Wednesday to Fridays from 9pm-11pm there’s a great opportunity to try a few of those!
Don’t just take out word for it, check out some of our reviews…
